Israel –
Iran Relationships
While
the Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar and successors ruled Israel as a
conquered and subdued nation for 70 years (the Babylonian Captivity), God had
sovereignly called Persian King Cyrus to set Israel free upon defeating
Babylon. This was a high point of ancient Iranian relationship with Israel.
Isaiah
45.1 “Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus whose right hand I have held,
to subdue nations before him ……….verse 3
“……that you (Cyrus) may know that I the LORD Who call you by your name, am the
God of Israel. Verse 4 “For Jacob My
servant’s sake, and Israel My elect, I have even called you (Cyrus) by name; I
have named you though you have not known Me. V.5 ………..There is no God beside Me ………”.
Fast forward to our modern times,
relationships between the two have changed to the worse since the fall of the
Shah of Iran, when Supreme Leaders Khomenei followed by Khamenei took over,
with President Ahmadinejad swearing to wipe out Israel.
Despite Iran’s nuclear ambitions
for the last few years, Israel has developed an “Iron Dome Aerial Shield”
against Muslim missiles hurled against it.
The Lord is working out His
sovereign purposes for the preservation of Israel, and the salvation of the
Jews according to Romans chapters 9 to 11.
